In today’s evolving healthcare environment, Bulongwa Lutheran Hospital (BLH) recognizes that institutions must adopt clear long-term strategic plans to effectively fulfill their mission and meet stakeholders’ expectations. We acknowledge the growing demand for quality, accessible, and sustainable health services within our catchment area.
This Strategic Plan provides a structured framework to guide our service delivery improvement, institutional strengthening, and sustainable development. It reflects our hospital’s commitment to professionalism, accountability, and continuous quality improvement in delivering compassionate faith-based healthcare services.

Bulongwa Lutheran Hospital (BLH) is a Voluntary Agency Hospital (VAH) belonging to the South Central Diocese (SCD) of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT). Our journey began in 1963, when we were officially launched by the late Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere, the first president of the United Republic of Tanzania.
Registered by the Ministry of Health (VAH 100544-6), the hospital has evolved into a vital pillar of health for Makete District. Today, we serve approximately 60,000 people, primarily supporting small-scale farmers and livestock keepers. Through the support of the government and the Health Basket Fund, we have grown from a modest clinic into the comprehensive medical institution we are today.

To deliver quality services, BLH is guided by these 7 core values:
